January 28, 2019 - Please stop interrupting me

Elder McElmurry, companion from Tillamook
This past week we had Zone Conference. One thing we do every Zone Conference is play something President and Sister Tateoka call jazzmitton. Basically there is a little birdy that you hit back and forth with what looks like a giant ping pong paddle. Well usually about 30 seconds after we start (we play with our comp) it ends up turning into let's see who can hit their companion the hardest with the birdy and then the other person tries to defend themselves from it.

This past Monday we had exchanges, I was with Elder Wagoner for all of Tuesday. Well we go out finding and the first guy we talk to is a hard core Catholic, I have nothing against Catholics but this guy was a jerk. We said hi and he started going off on us about how we were false and how we need to look up religion on YouTube and all of this other crazy stuff. All that Elder Wagoner and I wanted to do with this guy was get away. We would try and talk and end the conversation but then he would just interrupt us. I started to get really frustrated, so me thinking I'm clever just decides to talk over him and try to end the conversation so he starts yelling. We had no idea what he was even going off on.

To end the conversation I shook his hand and didn't let go which made him really uncomfortable and I just testified about the Book of Mormon and that I know God loves him and then walked away. I was so upset and Elder Wagoner knew it so we went back to the apartment and ate ice cream that has been in our freezer forever.

On Sunday I was asked to give a talk in church. I had always heard about people showing forth their faith and getting up there with nothing planned and then speaking for a good 20 minutes. Well me being me, I decided to put it to the test and see if the spirit would direct my thoughts and words to be the message that the people needed to hear. Well I can definitely tell you that God was very aware that I needed his help and he definately did help me to speak for a good 15 minutes. Now for those of you who know me I don't enjoy speaking very much and i showed that at my farewell. At my farewell I was asked to speak for 15 minutes and I think I lasted 7 or 8. After this talk when I sat down I was amazed that I actually filled the full time even though I had no idea what I said. Elder cathemer told me I talked a lot about prayer and incorporating it into missionary work so that's pretty cool. I know That God is there to help us when we need the help, we may not understand how it comes or how we got through but it does happen.
